Promised Land

I headed north out of Pahokee
A wheel fell off the car.
It rolled so far I couldn't see,
then I lost the key.
Jumped an old freight train heading south,
and I got that old cotton mouth.
Gonna jump off this old train
and catch a plane.
Gonna go to that island in the sun,
the "promised land"
Gonna go to where the big weed grows.
Only one man knows
and he says there are
big buds everyday.
That's the way
I wanna pass the time away.
He says whiskey flows
from the local spring,
you lay around
all day and sing.
Levon will be there
playing his drums real loud,
there will be pickups
from all around.
Dylan will be there
with his sound.
This is where the 72 virgins live,
so they say,
and you get to sit and watch railroad trains
go by all day.
This is the promised land.
You don't need any money in your hand.
Everything is free.
This is the promised land
and the big white line is oh so fine.
The drug store is open day and night.
Mr. Feelgood will make you feel right.
The big white horse grazes in the hills.
To me, it's chills,
to some, it's thrills.
This is the promised land.
You only need a one-way ticket for the plane,
and there's a 100 percent discount
if it looks like rain.
Your dog and cat
fly for free.
They get to sit
on your knee.
The plane has no wings....
you don't need any of those things.
You're going to the promised land.
So when your life goes south,
get your ticket in hand
and come to the promised land.
The sun shines all day,
the moon shines all night,
and the stars are always
really bright.
A nice warm breeze
blows in from the sea.
This is where
you will find me....
The Promised Land
When did you write this Riley....again...enjoyed a lot. Has anyone put these lyrics to music or do you know anyone who can?
